Alot of brides have confessed that when planning their wedding, they didnt consider how expensive flowers, particularily bridal/bridesmaid bouquets can be.
In fact, the average cost is somewhere around 1000.00, for the bouquets alone!
If you are having a spring wedding, a great idea for the bouquets could be to create your own.
What you need:
Scissors
Elastic Bands
Tape
Your chosen flowers (I will elaborate more on this in a second)
Ribbon ( In your wedding colour OR a neutral colour )
Step 1: Chosing your flowers
Since in most states in the US, and most provinces in Canada dont allow you to go to a local park and simply pick flowers, you will have to buy them from a florist. In MANY cases, like mine in southern ontario, you can find excellent floral shops in higher end Grocery Stores - like sobeys or zehrs superstores.
I did a little bit of research today and I found that the grocery store that I visited had a “make your own bouquet section. In which I found
· roses
· ox eye daisies (the white ones with the yellowish centre)
· gerbera daisies (the large dasies that you will often see in pink, orange etc)
· stargazer lillies
· peonies
· tullips
· asters
· babys breath
· limoniums
In the store that I was in today, there is a “pick your own section” in which you select three small bouquets (of around 6 flowers) for 20.00.
To make it look like a spring/handpicked bouquet, you can choose to make it random: Ie. the bridal and bridesmaids bouquets will all have different flowers. Remember, the key part here is to make them look rustic/homemade, for this DIY, that is the main appeal. The best thing about this option, however, is that you have unlimited creativity.
For the rustic/ countryside bride:
Choose one of the larger flowers (lillies/gerberas), babys’ breath and asters. Make sure to represent greenery and “spring” in general. Don’t cut the bottoms, leave them at their original lengths. Tie with twine.

For a more formal look:
Buy all three of the same flowers (roses, lillys, gerberas etc) and no filler. Cut all of the flowers the same length, with no jagged edges; keep the bouquet short – no more than 7 inches. Make sure the stems are very tight, use an elastic band and then tape if necessary.Tie together with a thicker, coloured ribbon about an inch from the top.Be sure to cover the tape.

Remember to cut the thorns if you are using roses, and to care for your flowers properly.
AVERAGE COST: 1000.00 +
YOUR COST: 200.00
